Q: painful side effects with atorvastatin drug treatment for lowering cholesterol?

A: Common adverse drug reactions (≥1% of patients) associated with atorvastatin therapy include: myalgia (muscle pain), mild transient gastrointestinal symptoms, elevated hepatic transaminase concentrations, headache, insomnia, and/or dizziness.

Personally, the muscle pain was not the big problem for me; more gastro problems.

Ask your doctor about your symptoms; maybe he’ll try a different cholesterol med. I tried several different types, but all gave me problems. I’m now working more on diet (olive oil, fish oil capules, etc.)

Q: What’s the density of atorvastatin?

A: The following patent application lists the bulk density of atrovastatin as “the bulk density is in the range of about 0.25 to 0.45 g/ml, tapped density is in the range of 0.35 to about 0.6 g/ml” for the API plus 3-5% antioxidant as described in the patent.

Q: if u have any brand name of these 3 drugs combination 1) atorvastatin 2) metoprolol and 3) ramipril..inform me?

A: There is no formulation that I am aware of that contains all of these medications. Ask your doctor if any of these medications could be changed to something that has the components available in a combination pill. Good luck.

Q: what is the meaning of prefixes ATOR OR ROZU to STATIN drugs?
Atorvastatin and rozuvastatin are drugs used to lower lipids cholesterol levels in heart attack patients.

A: There is a lot of disparity in generic drug names. Drug companies along with a scientific board convene to name new drugs. Thankfully all new drugs follow patterns, like the statins, artans (Angiotensin II receptor blockers), and newer mabs (monoclonal antibodies), but there is no formal decision of a name based on the drug’s true chemical name.

Drug companies for years have been trying to make the generic name as difficult as possible (and as allowed by the FDA) to say. This ensures that when Lipitor’s generic is approved this fall, patients and healthcare proffesionals refer to it as Lipitor and not Atorvastatin just as they refer to Imuran and not Azathioprine (I still struggle on that one). In fact the FDA is reviewing the process of naming new drugs because they are catching on to the drug companies plot.

Basically it all boils down to name recognition. Ator- and Rozu- are just used as identifiers just like people are call mike, or bob, or jim. Not much in a name right shakespeare? Wrong, because of this name recognition, drug companies are willing to shell out millions to create strong, catchy trade names and generic names that people will stumble over. It’s dollars in their pocket.

Q: can atorvastatin cause muscle cramps?

A: Yes it can. Treatment with HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors (statins) has been associated with the onset of myalgia, myopathy, and very rarely rhabdomyolysis. Myopathy must be considered in any patient under statin therapy presenting with unexplained muscle symptoms such as pain or tenderness, muscle weakness or muscle cramps. In such cases creatine kinase (CK) levels should be measured. If these levels are found to be significantly elevated (> 5 times ULN), treatment should be stopped. If muscular symptoms are severe and cause daily discomfort, even if CPK levels are elevated to LESS-THAN OR EQUAL TO (8804) 5 times ULN, treatment discontinuation should be considered.

Q: synthesis & manufacturing of atorvastatin drug?

A: try Genentech..i think they manufacture this drug

Q: can patients on propranolol do aerobics?how much aerobics if yes .does it interact with atorvastatin?ectopics?

A: Definitely yes, as long as you feel good. If you feel dizzy or light headed check your blood pressure and heart rate first before engaging in any exercise as this medications affect your heart rate and blood pressure. It is also compatible with atorvastatin. Atorvastatin is usually taken at bedtime or evening to get its maximum effect.

Q: what are causes for high creatinine kinasae enzyme?
I AM ON Atorvastatin 10 mg daily, wheather to dicontinue or reduce dose?

A: Statins can cause muscle damage which is measured as elevated CK. You need to ask your doctor if you should stop the statin or not.

Q: what will happen if the blood LDL is less than normal?
I am taking ATORVASTATIN for high blood cholestrol for more than 8 months, and I am in a situation that I can’t afford to test my blood. so, I don’t know what’s going on in my blood. so, I want to know if my blood LDL is less than normal what is going to happen? thank you

A: Ideal levels of LDL has been shown and the level’s actual effects can be clearly told only based on other risk conditions existing such as smoking, diabetes etc., which leads to high risk for heart conditions.
LDL Cholesterol Level LDL-Cholesterol Category
Less than 100 mg/dL Optimal
100-129 mg/dL Near optimal/above optimal
130-159 mg/dL Borderline high
160-189 mg/dL High
190 mg/dL and above Very high
The main goal of cholesterol-lowering treatment is to lower your LDL level enough to reduce your risk of developing heart disease or having a heart attack. The higher your risk, the lower your LDL goal will be.
If your LDL is less than 130 mg/dL, you will need to follow the heart healthy diet for all Americans, which allows a little more saturated fat and cholesterol than the TLC diet.
